Paradise Winds are back from acclaimed performances in Tokyo and now present their world-class brand of virtuoso woodwind chamber music in Scottsdale.  It’s exciting new music — all 21st Century compositions — including works commissioned especially for Paradise Winds quintet and duo ensembles.

Members of Paradise Winds include:

  • Tiffany Pan, oboe
  • Joshua Gardner, clarinet
  • Stefanie Harger Gardner, clarinet and bass clarinet
  • Joseph Kluesener, bassoon
  • Patrick Murphy, soprano and alto saxophones

The concert program:

  • Tom Peterson, Parhelia (2012) — duet for alto saxophone and bassoon
  • Eric Mandat, Bipolarang (2008) duet for two clarinets
  • John Steinmetz, Songs & Dances (2013) — duet for oboe and bassoon
  • Graham Cohen, Unexpected Affinities (2015) – reed quintet and piano
  • Robbie McCarthy, Four-Letter Word (2012) — quintet for oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, and soprano saxophone

Unexpected Affinities, a concerto grosso for reed quintet and string orchestra, was commissioned as a Holocaust Remembrance and Celebration of Life and given its world premiere in January 2015 by the MusicaNova Orchestra featuring Paradise Winds.  Pianist Hannah Creviston joins Paradise Winds for the premiere of composer Graham Cohen’s setting of the work for reed quintet and piano.

The Paradise Winds met during graduate studies at Arizona State University. Recently, they have appeared on American Public Media’s Performance Today and collaborated with the Grammy-winning Phoenix Chorale.

Individual artists of the Paradise Winds have appeared with Chicago Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, AIMS Festival Orchestra (Austria), Wintergreen Summer Music Festival (Virginia), and with the Phoenix Symphony, Arizona Opera, and  Ballet Arizona.
